About us
My name is George Wiley, and I’m 16 years old. My love for coffee began at home with my dad, who has always had a special connection to it. He’s an eye surgeon, and with long, unpredictable hours, coffee has always been his trusted companion—keeping him sharp through surgeries and late nights. When he finally bought an espresso machine, it sparked something in both of us. Our kitchen transformed into a coffee lab, filled with the sound of grinding beans, steaming milk, and the excitement of discovery. That’s where I found my own passion—not just for brewing, but for roasting coffee.
The name Los Ojos Rojos, which means “Red Eyes” in Spanish, grew out of this story. It’s a nod to those long days and sleepless nights my dad knows so well, and the coffee that keeps us both going. For him, it’s about saving sight in the operating room. For me, it’s about chasing the perfect roast. And for anyone who drinks our coffee, it’s about finding that fresh energy when you need it most.
I’ve always had a love for the ocean. I started surfing and kitesurfing when I was very young, and those sports have taken me on trips around the world. Through those travels, I discovered the Dominican Republic. I was struck not only by its incredible waves and steady winds, but also by the warmth of the people and the spirit of the local communities. I felt a strong connection there, and I knew I wanted to give back to the kids who call the Dominican Republic home.
I believe that fresh coffee is the best coffee. Beyond taste, coffee has always been a communal drink—something that brings people together. Whether it’s my dad and I experimenting in the kitchen, friends sharing laughs over lattes, or entire communities gathering around a pot of fresh brew, coffee has a way of sparking connection.
That belief in connection also fuels our mission. I run Los Ojos Rojos as a non-profit, with proceeds going to support elementary schools in the Dominican Republic. Just as coffee can bring people together across a table, I want it to build bridges across borders—linking every cup you drink to opportunities for kids in need.
When you enjoy Los Ojos Rojos, you’re not just drinking fresh, flavorful coffee. You’re joining in a story about family, about vision, about adventure, and about giving back. Together, we can make a difference—one roast, one cup, and one community at a time.
